Alexius, Oscar
Born in 1949, Oscar Alexius is a well-known Navjo silversmith who has been producing silverwork since the mid-70's. In his book, American Indian Jewelry I; 1,200 Artist Biographies, Greg Schaaf wrote of Oscar, "He is best known for helping to revive traditional, old-style jewelry." Oscar formerly hallmarked his pieces "O.A." and now hallmarks with his full name in script. Since mid-2004, he has been working with Navajo smith Tommy Jackson and we have seen work with Tommy's hallmark which is clearly done by Oscar in his recognizable style of smithing. Oscar is a part-time rodeo bull rider who makes less jewelry during the rodeo season.
