Kabotie, Michael

Also known as Lomawywesa, Michael Kabotie belongs to the Snow Clan and lives at Shungopavi on Second Mesa. He has been smithing since the late sixties. His designs are unique and instantly recognizable. In his book American Indian Jewelry I: 1,200 Artist Biographies, Greg Schaaf wrote of Michael that, "Some of his work shows an influence from Cubism." Michael is also a painter, muralist and graphic artist. He has used several hallmarks over the years, but now seems to use his initials "MK" as his jewelry hallmark. His work has appeared in several publications, including the magazines American Indian Art and Arizona Highways. Further biographical information and photos of his work can be found on page 200 of Schaaf's book.
