Tawahongva, Mark

Born in 1948 at Hotevilla, Mark now lives at Shungopavi on Second Mesa. He is an accomplished smith who uses traditional Hopi motifs to create his jewelry. Mark often uses the textured, oxidized underlayer of his jewelry to form borders for his pieces, while most other Hopi artists only expose the oxidized underlayer of their designs in the interior of the design. Mark hallmarks with the "M" and "T" of his initials intersecting and also uses a rabbit's head in profile as a pictographic hallmark (as shown).
