Tim Yazzie Orange Spiny Oyster Barrette

This Sterling silver barrette made by Navajo silversmith Tim Yazzie is shaped like a butterfly and decorated with stampwork motifs and "bumped up" repoussée forms. He set an oval of orange spiny oyster to form the butterfly's body. Tim lightly brushed his silver and applied an oxidizing agent to give this piece an "old pawn" finish. This has the standard French-manufactured pressure-hinge mechanism on back. Width between the hinges is 1 1/8" (where the hair fits).

Hallmarked "T.Yazzie" and stamped "Sterling" on back.
